I've met many athletes that would join the military as last resort and that itself tells me that they probably dont have the right motivation, do non-athletes succed in special operations feild, what if they are extremely motivated?

Life of a military special operations person? I was curious on what sort of life does someone in a special operations branch live? How often are you deployed? When your not deployed what do you do? I have wanted his for some time and am determined to do it. What could i expect to have to do to get an opportunity to do this? Also could you go to school while doing something like this or would you have to do it before or after?

I am in about average shape and I want to know if I should start to work out or if I will be fine and will just get in shape during training? If you are a current or former Special Operations member I would like to know what kind of information that you can pass on to the next generation. I plan on enlisting in the military next year, I'm not sure what branch yet. Thanks for your help.
What does special operations "capable" forces mean? When they talk about the Recon units of Force Recon they call them special operations "capable" forces. Yet they call Marine Special Operations Regiment and United States Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command special op groups. I'm just curious to know what exactly does that mean.
Is there a reserve contract for special operations? The army recruiter told me there was no 11B in are area so I was wondering if theres some way to go into any special operations in reserves? any branch is fine. will I be able to attend college while in the program?
Are Special Operations soldiers born or made? I'm asking this question just out of curiosity. How many out of 100 Special Operations soldiers or Marines are naturally born strong and athletic or have always been athletic in civilian life, and how many are "made" ? In other words, let's take an example. Someone not THAT athletic, but motivated, enlists as a Marine infantryman. He then works out for a couple of years and makes it to the Special Operations (in this example, MarSOC). Would that be possible ? or are operators all born strong or already strong from their civilian life ?
Can I be an Officer in Marine Special Operations? If I'm in Marine Special Operations (MARSOC?), what will I most likely be doing? I want to be operating in a small unit, doing high importance tasks for the military- but I REALLY want to be a Marine. Do I have to go Navy SEALs for that kind of thing? Also, if that IS what MARSOC will have me do, can do it as an Officer? I want to lead, but I want some action.
Do Canadian Special Operations Units actually do anything? I am Canadian and would like to be on a special forces team, but I am worried that Canadian ones don't actually go after the terrorists like the US does. I have been looking at the Navy SEALs in the United States also, which looks amazing and I am well interested in. I am not certain that Canada is in any action in the war on terror. Thanks.

What is the best Special Operations force in the US military IN YOUR OPINION? I know each branch's special ops are very, very good. I know they are all different and have different, very specific missions (i.e. USA Special Forces have a different job than the SEALs), but just out of curiosity, which are you most partial too? (Im very interested to see what veterans have to say about this...)

Does the Marine Corps have a special operations unit? I'm trying to deliberate which branch of the military to enter and i've always wanted to be a special forces soldier but i'm not sure whether the USMC has a unit. I am leaning towards the marines because i like how they carry themselves and the way they value honor because i value honor and respect a lot but I also really want to be in the special forces. Any help would be great because joining the military is a big decision and i want to make the right choice. Thanks.
Whays the difference between the CIA's Special Operations Group and the Studies and Observations Group? I know both of these groups are black op team. But whats the difference between them, and why the different names. I know the Studies and Observations Group was formed and active during the Cold War Era moreso i nthe Vietnam Stuff, and I know the CIA's SOG is still going on. Was the Studies and Obsevations Group a CIA Unit, if not what part of the military was it part of. Why was it deactivated only to have the CIA form another SOG. Are they actually the same thing, if so why the different name?
What is the most Elite Special Operations Unit in the World? The answer is very complicated when you look at the United States Navy seals, United Kingdom's S.A.S. and or the United States (Possible) Delta force. which is the best? and feel free to throw a different Spec. Ops in there from either of these nations or somewhere else and tell me WHY they are the best.
What is the total number of special operations forces in the United States? Please give sources with your answers. If you could tell me how many SOF there are worldwide that would also help. If you know the chain of command for the U.S. SOF that would also be good. Thanks! for all those who keep informing me that the number can't be known for because of security, I know that in 2006 the number was 26,000. I just want a more updated number
What is your favorite special operations force? Now, before someone gets their panties in a bunch, this question is asking your opinion. I am not asking for who is better and I am not looking for people to argue over who is or isn't. It's a easy 2 point question, no right or wrong answer. Random best answer. Have a wonderful week everyone!

What do Special Operations do in the Case of someone Surrendering? UK SAS/SBS, American Berets/ SeALs what do they do if and when as person tries to surrender to them? On one hand it is against the rules of conduct to harm a person trying to surrender, on the other hand it is not practical to take POWs and still accomplish the mission. KJ: your answer sounds a lot like, "well if you don't know I am not going to tell ya."
Which Special Operations Force unit is the best at conducting Direct Action (DA) missions behind enemy lines? Direct Action (DA): Either overt or covert action against an enemy force. These include: seizing, damaging or destroying a target; capturing or recovering personnel or material in support of strategic/operational objectives; or acting as conventional forces. I know ALL Special Operations Force units are highly-trained and highly equipped to conduct Direct Action (DA) missions. Each unit is highly-capable. But, which unit is the best at it? This question is not limited to U.S. Special Operations Force units.
Anyone in or one was in the Special Operations Command? Which is closely related to the Navy SEALs, Army Rangers or the Marine Corps' Force Reconnaissance? Which one of the two does missions similar like the SEALs. SEALs do covert, sneak-in then sneak-out, never seen me, I could kill you and you wouldn't even see it coming kind of things.

Why Are Special Operations Troops Currently Deployed To Denver,Colorado? One assumes it has to do with the upcoming Democrat National Convention. But shouldn't these guys be chasing Osama Bin Laden instead of landing on the roofs of downtown buildings and buzzing the baseball stadium in their black helicopters during games? If these guys are the same ones who did Blackhawk Down it won't make the people of Colorado any safer, will it?
Special Operations preparation help? I am interested going into Air Force Special Operations as an STO (CCT). I am well-aware of the training pipeline and requirements necessary. I need to know how to prepare for such a physical, mental, and emotional challenge. I am a very athletic person and I usually max my Air Force PFTs but I would like some suggestions on how to get to that top physical level of a special operator. How do I reach that level? I am looking for specialized special forces workouts and not the elementary fitness stuff that is usually included in those purported "SEAL Workout" Books. Are there any truly "hardcore" military workout books out there? Recon Ron? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a few years to train for the PAST Test and the training pipeline. Also, because I am on Air Force curriculum, we do not have any substantial small arms, combative, or infantry-based training. How do I get my hands on CURRENT FMs for these subjects or whats the best way to learn these skills? Also, what is the best way to build mental toughness? Which books should I read? What exercises should I do? Any help is appreciated! I am currently in college at a large public university majoring in International Affairs and Germanic and Slavic languages.
